Em's First Kindergarten Class Trip Pumpkin PickingDonaldson's FarmHackettstown, NJ
Yesterday I had the pleasure of being a chaperone on Em's first class trip ever. It was especially heartwarming since both my sons'first class trips were to pumpkin farms. The trip was to Donaldson's Farm in Hackettstown, NJ. It's exit 19 off of Route 80.My family has been to Donaldson's a few times, but we have not been there in years and years. Em's class enjoyed a little private event celebrationwhen they arrived that included freshly picked apples, apple cider, and the reading of the book Spookley The Square Pumpkin. The children were also taught about different typesof pumpkins and the many uses of them.It wasn't long after that everyone boarded the tractor-pulled hayride for a tour of the farm.Everyone was shown where the corn, strawberries, mums, apples and many other fruits and vegetables were grown. The view of the mountains were spectacular!Soon we arrived at a pumpkin field where pumpkinssized perfectly for Kindergarten students were growing. The children searched the field for their ownperfect pumpkin. Emily checked about 30 before making her final decision!

I loved how the pumpkins were still on the vines andtaken off only after they were chosen by each child.Every child boarded the hay ride for the return trip where we all enjoyed lunch and a little play time!It was the perfect first class trip experience and I was so honored to be a part of it.If you are a teacher or a parent, this is a wonderfulfarm to visit. The people are very child friendly and the family has owned the farm for many years. There is a shoppe on the grounds that sells a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables and bakery goods. We had the perfect day at Donaldson's Farm!
